The Ultimate Israeli Salad Recipe

Everyone makes the best Israeli salad recipe differently. However, there are two ingredients that are always included: tomato and cucumber. After that, the world of Israeli salad is free-for-all. Most Israelis like their vegetables chopped as finely as possible and some like coarsely cut pieces. Some Sepharadi Jews add a dash of hot pepper or a chopped green chili pepper. Some people include chopped cabbage and white vinegar while others include finely chopped pieces of fresh lemon. It takes several tries to find what works for you and your family but when you find a winning combination, you’ve struck gold. ***Hint: use a very sharp knife to avoid smushing or mushing the vegetables.

4 tomatoes

3 small cucumbers

1/2 sweet red/orange/yellow pepper

1/2 red onion

1 avocado

Parsley, small bunch

Mint, small bunch



Cayenne pepper, small pinch

2 tablespoons olive oil

juice of half a lemon


Chop everything and put it in a bowl. Add spices. Serve with tahini and enjoy!
